EVEN IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

A play with songs

Eve Beckett is a teenager living in rural Ontario who is concerned with 1) a cute boy she has a crush on 2) being cool 3) auditioning for classical music and drama conservatories. It can be tough to catch the attention of said cute boy and look cool  as her family is in the throws of a bluegrass and celtic trad career, and she always finds herself playing fiddle tunes with her cousins in front of the entire town...but despite the awkwardness of all that, life is pretty good. Until it isn't. Until a local murder mystery begins to unfold around her, and Eve begins to awaken to the corruption and misogyny deeply woven into the fabric of her beloved community. As the investigation of the murder unfolds, Eve begins to realize that unless drastic action is taken, justice will not run it's ccourse, so she decides to act.

Even in the Dead of Night premiered in Stratford, Ontario at The York Lane Art Collective in 2018, and is currently being developed with the dramaturgy of Sadie Laflamme-Snow, supported generously by The Blyth Festival and The Ontario Arts Council.
